3650-3700 MHz (NN) Band
The FCC has finally made rulings regarding the use of the
3.65GHz band. This band is intended to be used by wireless ISP
and other commercial customers as an alternative to the ISM
900MHz and 2.4GHz bands or the NII 5GHz bands.
The band contains 50MHz of bandwidth which allows for
interoperability of devices in a similar manner to the way the
ISM band operates. Devices have to be approved by the FCC as
meeting the criteria of using a collision based protocol which
can be detected by other devices and recover from collision of
traffic between devices on the same band.
The HauteSpot HauteWRAP products are designed to operate in this
band and meet the criteria for interoperability.
In order to maintain orderly use of the band, the FCC requires
that each user obtain a license for operation in the band and
then further register their base stations (in the case of mobile
operations) or fixed transceivers in the Universal Licensing
System which the FCC maintains.
If interference occurs on the band, users then have the ability
to refer to the ULS database to find the source of the
interference and work together to resolve the issue in an
orderly way.
Since the licenses are fairly expensive for individuals to
acquire (currently $260), there should be a limited number of
applicants and more availability of bandwidth than in the ISM or
NII bands.
The band has better propagation (range) than 4.9 and 5GHz bands,
and less congestion than 2.4 GHz or 900MHz. It is an excellent
backhaul technology.
There are a few WiMAX products that are available in this band
already. However the HauteSpot Networks HauteWRAP products are
more cost effective, more flexible in their deployment options
and overall better value.
Further, with the availability of dual radio models from
HauteSpot, it is easy to create transition points from a 3.65GHz
backhaul to a 900MHz, 2.4GHz, 4.9GHz, or 5GHz access point.
Call us for help in planning your network deployment or to learn
more about this newly available band.

Happy Holidays
It has been a really busy month with lots of excitement here at
HauteSpot:
- We just moved our offices
(again) to a wonderful new facility that will allow us to
provide better customer training, store more component
inventory, have more reliable network connectivity (one
block from the ATT Central Office), and have more parking.
All in all it is a great move for both us and our customers.
Our phone numbers, fax numbers and email all remain the
same.
- We just completed
interoperability testing with the most demanding 16
MegaPixel IP cameras on the market. Their nominal data rate
was over 70 Mbps and the HauteROUTER HR-IXPSXP-5 kept up,
supporting a wireless link that performed well with no
jitter.
- We have signed on
some phenomenal new sales reps to help us better service our
customers:
- The HauteWRAP HR-WRAPCX has now had some
great field testing thanks to one of our customers in the
robotics market. We are confident that this new 2.4GHz only
lower cost end node, together with the HauteWRAP HR-WRAPLX
multi band modular end node, will be ideal for surveillance
applications which are cost sensitive.
- Finally, the FCC has finalized rules for
the 3.65GHz band which allows customers to operate in the
frequency using our equipment. See the story in the side bar
to the right.

Holiday Hours - Important!
Please be aware that our office
will be closed from Dec. 22, 2008 to Jan 2, 2009 for the
holidays. Any electronic orders received during this period will
be shipped on or after Jan. 2. For emergency technical support,
please call our main phone number at (805) 541-9477 ext 22 and
leave a message. We will respond to you within 2 hours. Or send
an email request to

HauteWRAPTM
Product Family TDMA and Simple Interface
Beginning with release 3.14 of
the HauteRouterOS system on the HauteWRAP product family, we
have begun to offer two major changes to our systems. Both are
intended to simplify our systems and make them faster to install
and use.
First, the HauteSPAN Time Division Multiple
Access - like (TDMA-like) mode is the default operating mode for the
system. When HauteWRAP products are shipped, they will have a
default operating mode of HauteSPAN TDMA-like enabled, not
802.11. The HauteSPAN protocol is
designed specifically for video IP applications over wireless.
It does a number of things, including:
- It eliminates collisions
that cause jitter
- It provides equal bandwidth
access to all nodes
- It provides more even data
spacing (also reducing jitter)
- It reduces the hidden node
problem that effects WiFi and mesh
- It provides better
scalability when compared to WiFi or mesh protocols.
Setting a HauteWRAP back to
standard 802.11 operation is simple and can be done by any
administrator via the console or client-server application with
one simple command.
Second, all HauteWRAP products
will now be shipping with a greatly simplified web interface,
designed specifically for installers. In two simple pages, the
installer can set all of the parameters for the system and align
the antenna for optimal signal. Installers need very little
network experience and can easily be trained to use this new
interface.
There are two user accounts for
the system by default. "Install" only has access to the web
interface and basic configuration features. "Admin" can access
the system from telnet, ssh, or client-server application. For
troubleshooting or advanced configuration, the Admin account can
fully administrate all features of the system.
"So easy, anyone can do it...even
my parents!"
For OEM customers we can also
customize the web interface. |
